My name is Captain Sharif… Retired.
I work at DRB Hicom Defence Technology Sdn Bhd.
First of all, I HATED English language…since primary school.
When it’s English subject… I failed. For SPM, I got only pass for English subject.
So because of that result, I joined ATMA – National Defense Academy, a collaboration with UTM (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia).
In ATMA, I got best cadet, overall. I also got academic award from UTM.
But my confidence level was low because I could not speak in English.
In army, the environment is in Malay but every course is in English because the officers speak in English and the medium of study is English.
I had the opportunity to attend oversea courses for example, to Canada and Australia as an instructor with Australian army.
But I purposely did not attend the English examination – ADFEC, because I don’t want anyone to know that I was weak in English.
After I joined Brican, I am now comfortable to speak in English.
I know ROL is like a secret to improve in English!
Before this, I can only speak in Malay and write in Malay.
Now I can write email in English.
Amazing, now I can write my department’s SOP fully in English!
The environment,… The support from Yasmin,.. and friends,… Make me eager to attend class.
Every Friday, my feeling is, “I want to attend class!”
